Camden Art Centre is recruiting for a Front of House and Volunteer Programme Coordinator, an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering an exceptional visitor experience at an internationally recognised contemporary arts organisation. Working closely with colleagues across the Centre, the role is responsible for overseeing the smooth running of Front of House operations, supporting the team of Supervisors and Visitor Assistants, and ensuring that the galleries remain welcoming, accessible and safe for all visitors. The role also leads and coordinates the Centre’s Front of House-led exhibition guided tours programme, delivered by Visitor Assistants and Volunteers.

The successful candidate will lead the development and delivery of Camden Art Centre’s Volunteer Programme, overseeing recruitment, induction, training, rotas and ongoing engagement, while creating meaningful opportunities for Volunteers to develop their skills and connect with the Centre’s exhibitions and wider programme. Working collaboratively across departments, they will support and develop both paid staff and Volunteers, champion high standards of visitor services, and help foster an inclusive and supportive environment in which everyone feels valued and equipped to contribute to the Centre’s work.

The successful candidate will have experience coordinating or managing Volunteers, excellent organisational and communication skills, and the ability to lead, motivate and support a diverse team. They will be proactive, approachable and confident balancing programme development with hands-on Front of House responsibilities. A demonstrable interest in contemporary art and culture, a commitment to creating an accessible and welcoming visitor experience, and an enthusiasm for meaningful volunteer engagement are essential.

Salary: £30,000 per annum pro rata

Camden Art Centre has been a place for art and the people who make it since 1965. Rooted in its community in north London and respected by artists around the world, it has given early support to artists including Phyllida Barlow, Kerry James Marshall, Kara Walker and Mohammed Sami, and staged the first UK exhibitions of artists such as Hilma af Klint and Martin Wong. Learning sits at the heart of our mission, and exhibitions and education carry equal weight.

After nearly a decade as Director, Martin Clark leaves Camden Art Centre in January 2027 to lead Towner in Eastbourne. The Board of Trustees now seeks his successor.

This is a moment of real change. Camden Art Centre recently acquired its building from Camden Council, securing its long-term home. An upcoming capital project developed with Tony Fretton and David Owen Architect will improve facilities, grow earned income and reduce the building’s environmental footprint. Leading the campaign to fund it will be central to the role.

The position is hands-on, with a team of around 25. The Director sets the artistic vision, leads exhibitions and learning programmes, and is responsible for all fundraising, working with a Deputy Director who oversees finance, operations, and commercial activity. We are looking for a leader with a track record of programming contemporary visual art and working closely with artists. You will bring proven success in fundraising and income generation, sound financial and business judgement, an understanding of capital projects, and a genuine commitment to access, diversity and learning.
